The owners of Eastern Dorpers and White Dorpers, Peter and Penny Dagg, are experienced veterinarians with a keen interest in animal health and welfare. They decided to breed Dorpers and White Dorpers after undertaking extensive research into the various sheep breeds.

Penny and Peter Dagg

Penny and Peter own a 212 hectare property, ‘Wallaby Hills’, located at Murrumbateman in the Southern Tablelands. They are committed to breeding quality Dorpers and White Dorpers with sound conformation and temperament. They love their beautiful sheep and ensure the highest level of animal welfare for each and every one of them.

Penny is a veterinarian with extensive experience in both small animal and mixed animal practices, including running her own practice for several years. She also has an honours degree in Zoology, a Master of Philosophy in the medical sciences and post-graduate qualifications in veterinary pharmacology. In her spare time, Penny has a keen interest in flock/herd genetics and provides acupuncture treatments for equine injuries.

Most recently, Penny has worked for the Australian Government in animal biosecurity conducting import risk analyses and policy reviews. She has also published a number of scientific and technical articles and papers in various veterinary publications and journals, and has been a reviewer for the Australian and Canadian Veterinary Journals.

Peter is also a veterinarian and has worked in dairy practice in Victoria and mixed animal practice in New South Wales focusing on animal husbandry, and flock and herd health and wellbeing. He also has post-graduate qualifications in veterinary pharmacology and in agriculture.

Peter has worked for the Australian Government being responsible for managing key initiatives related to national emergency animal disease preparedness and response, veterinary public health, risk analysis, biotechnology, antimicrobial resistance, international standards for chemical residues in foods and zoonotic diseases. He provided policy and scientific advice during the Australian responses to the 2007 equine influenza and pandemic (H1N1) 2009 influenza outbreaks and recent Hendra virus incidents. Peter has particular interests in pestiviruses (especially infection in sheep – commonly known as Border Disease).
